'Champion for Change'
by Practice Greenhealth
HealthTrust was selected for the fourth time as a recipient
of a "Champion for Change" award from Practice Greenhealth, a
national membership organization for healthcare facilities com-
mitted to environmentally responsible operations. The award is
one of the organization's Environmental Excellence Awards given
each year to honor outstanding environmental achievements in
the healthcare sector.
J. Michael Jones, FACHE, director of Clinical Education and
Sustainability at HealthTrust, accepted the 2013 award on behalf
of HealthTrust at the annual CleanMed Conference & Exposition,
the premier environmental conference for leaders in healthcare
sustainability, held recently in Boston.
"HealthTrust recognizes the importance of providing its mem-
bers with options for environmentally preferable purchasing of
products and services," Jones says. "We continue to expand our
e ort to include products and services that are better for both the
environment and public health as our member facilities increas-
ingly ask for sustainable purchasing options."
The Champion for Change Award is reserved for organizational
partners supplying healthcare products and services that are con-
siderate of the earth and its resources. The winners of this award
have achieved success in greening their own organizations and
have also assisted others who are committed to improving their
environmental performance. HealthTrust has been a member of
Practice Greenhealth since 2008. •
An ACA Reprieve Until 2015
The Obama administration's announcement that the implementation of employer mandate and insurer reporting requirements under
the A ordable Care Act (ACA) will be delayed until 2015 gives businesses additional time to prepare for their responsibilities under the
law. The ACA requires that businesses with 50 or more employees provide health insurance coverage to their full-time employees or pay a
fine. To keep track of this, businesses are also required to provide information reports regarding their employees' healthcare. Originally, the
law was scheduled to go into e ect starting in January 2014, but on July 2 the administration announced that the date would be extended
for another year.
Many businesses claimed they would not have su cient time to comply with the law if it went into e ect in 2014. Business owners also
complained that the requirements were unclear and complex, making them di cult to implement e ectively. With an additional year to
prepare for the changes, the administration says it will work to simplify the reporting requirements as well as allow businesses more time
to adapt to the new policy. Find more information on the policy at www.hhs.gov/healthcare/rights/index.html.
