“We form long-term relationships where our
clients and members feel comfortable calling on us.
We don’t do jobs where people come in and just do
assessments. We pick our clients and make sure it’s
a good match.”
Huddleston expects to see a 20 to 30 percent
growth in Parallon’s consulting business during the
next few years.
When a team is on-site, Parallon makes sure the
advisors become fully integrated in the day-to-day
operation. Scoggins and his staff, for example, receive
regular updates of what to expect when “X” goes into
effect or what will happen once “Y” occurs.
“That level of preparation makes it easy to let some-
one else assist with your team,” he says.
Although partnership, experience and expediency
are three core aspects of working with Parallon, one
value is paramount.
“The first value at Parallon is patients first,”
Huddleston says. “We have nurses and other man-
agers who have all come from hospitals, so that
component is drilled into us. Can we cut costs by
skipping a step? If so, what’s the impact on the
patient? That’s in our DNA.”

“Some consultants try to jump forward without
an understanding of where they are starting from,”
Huddleston says. “It’s key for everyone to agree what
the current issues are and the strengths and resources
available. We identify where you are today as a base-
line, then we outline where you can get to in the ideal
future. We show you what you have to do to get there,
using a tried-and-true process that focuses on best
practices that we know work.
“We strive to be pragmatic instead of trying to
baffle you, which is what most consultants do. People
find what we do refreshing,” Huddleston continues.
Scoggins finds his experience with Parallon
refreshing on several levels. As CFO, he naturally
has his eye on the bottom line. Even with dramatic
changes in automation and technology taking place
at his facility, he estimates his ROI to be one to two
years, a short period given the large dollar amounts
with which he is working, he says.
Perhaps the highest praise, however, comes with
the peace of mind Scoggins has found.
“The Parallon team has taken ownership and has
been a true partner in this relationship,” Scoggins
says. “I go to bed each night knowing I have the right
team on-site working with us.”
