Home' The Source : First Quarter 2013 Contents n my last column of 2012, I highlighted the importance
of having a comprehensive understanding of your spend
profile and our commitment to delivering strong capabili-
ties to assist you in gaining the critical insights you need to
gauge your progress on sustaining clinical excellence and producing
improved financial value. In 2013, HealthTrust’s largest strategic
investment is in the technology tool set and resources that enable us
to identify value—be it contract coverage, off-contract spend, utiliza-
tion, standardization or any measure of improved outcomes—through
our spend analytics solutions.
I am pleased to report that HealthTrust’s pharmacy spend diag-
nostics tool was recently recognized for outstanding achievement
in the use of data analytics to create business value by Teradata, an
analytics data solutions company. HealthTrust won an EPIC award in
the “On the Edge” category for implementations considered cutting-
edge, industry-leading innovations.
The EPIC awards recognized Teradata customers for their extraor-
dinary innovation in the use of data analytics to create competitive
advantage. HealthTrust was one of 16 winners announced during an
awards ceremony in October 2012.

Results of 2012 Member Satisfaction Survey
While the new realities of health-care reform reveal themselves
and market uncertainties remain, HealthTrust will continue to drive
innovative solutions focused on driving better overall clinical and
financial performance through a collaborative approach with you
and your colleagues across the membership. Part of expanding our
value proposition includes asking for your feedback through our
annual member satisfaction survey.
Results from the annual member satisfaction survey—along with
industry research, a competitive market assessment and member
feedback received through our business reviews—are all part of our
annual strategic planning process that helps us commit to and refine a
five-year plan that identifies market opportunities, refines core com-
petencies and justifies new investments in support of member needs.
Our most recent survey was offered during the third quarter of
2012 at the HealthTrust University Conference & Vendor Fair. Of
the attendees responding to the survey, 80 percent indicated they
“strongly agree” or “agree” that HealthTrust provides a superior
value in the marketplace.
We are proud to offer the industry’s benchmark contract portfolio.
And, per usual, members responding underscored the value of a
committed purchasing model as their primary reason for partnering
Other areas rated highest by members were:
> Support (received from account management, customer service
and clinical operations)
> Pricing (savings, incentives and buying power)
> Contracting (comprehensive contracts, aggressiveness)
> Education (the annual conference, courses and training)
> Clinical (resources, support, expertise)
> Technology/Data (access to data and contract details, ease of
navigation, reporting tools)
> Model (leverage purchasing volume)
While we are pleased with the survey results overall, we know there
is always room for improvement. We will continue to enhance our
value to member facilities in the areas of Contracting—improve phy-
sician preference items, vendor accountability and contract details;
Technology—navigation capabilities and ease of use of our SCRUBS
and CatScan systems; Account Support—more site visits, vendor sup-
port/responsiveness; and Communications—more frequent updates.
The departments responsible for each of these areas have reviewed
and prioritized the feedback, developing action plans to address many
of these key issues. You will learn more about those improvements
in the months ahead.
Thanks to those of you who participate in our surveys, planning
and advisory board and committee processes. And, thanks also to
each of you for your trust and membership in our organization. As
always, we are grateful for your feedback and direction on how we
can further enhance the value you receive from HealthTrust. Here’s
to a great 2013!
